When you RT you are rebroadcasting or forwarding to your friends on Twitter, a tweet, in other words a message you’ve read on that network. You do it by entering “RT” in capitals in the “What are you doing” window (where you write your tweets) then you cut and paste in the message you want. You can add your own comment.

- If possible, after the RT, add @ and the name of the author of the tweet that you’re retweeting, before you cut and paste your message – that way you raise the profile of the person who wrote the tweet. By no means all messages get retweeted, it’s a mark of recognition. Today, Twitter has established itself as probably the fastest way to broadcast an item of news worldwide. In a matter of hours, thanks to retweeting, millions of people can find out about the latest soap star to become pregnant. You might say that, as long as a critical piece of news or an unkind rumour is not really being retweeted, it means there’s only a limited buzz and the risk of a crisis is not that great.
