Fan page

Updated : Tuesday 2 February 2010

This is a blog, a site set up by a fan in honour of someone they admire, or a celebrity. One example is the Google fan page dedicated to Michael Jackson, which – since he died – has had 7 million members.

  • Don’t imagine for one moment that someone will set up a “fan page” for you on the strength of one brief television appearance. Fan pages are the preserve of worldwide celebrities in sport and the arts, and to a lesser degree famous politicians, scientists and humanitarian figures. Companies are opening fan pages for their brands or products, to generate interactivity with Facebookers in the hope of winning over very young consumers in particular. But not all of them are prepared to play the game of interactive free expression on the net. Censoring critical messages on your fan page is not the best way to preserve your reputation.
